FYP 2 (WEEK 7)

WEEK 7

Title of Activity
  • Test circuit

Objective
  • To make sure the circuit can function properly

Content / Procedure

Test the PIC circuit and LCD display

Test circuit for LCD display

Problem Statement
  • LCD did not display the output from PIC circuit

Solution
  • Change the the pin port in PIC circuit

Conclusion

As a conclusion, what we can conclude here in week 7 is we manage to troubleshoot the circuit and gain more knowledge about the LCD .

FYP 2 (WEEK 6)

WEEK 6

Title of Activity
  • Design RS232 connection for PCB layout
  • Combination of GSM and PIC circuit

Objective
  • To combine the GSM modem with the PIC circuit

Content / Procedure

Front view of RS 232 connector

Back view of RS 232 connector

Overall view for RS232

Combination between GSM and PIC 16F877A circuit

  • GSM allowed for a more optimal allocation of the radio spectrum, which therefore allows for a larger number of subscribers.
  • Currently there are several bands in use in GSM. 450 MHz, 850 MHZ, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, and 1900 MHz are the most common ones.
  • GSM allows for use of duplex operation.
  • Although GSM operates in duplex (separate frequencies for transmit and receive), the mobile station does not transmit and receive at the same time.
  • A switch is used to toggle the antenna between the transmitter and receiver.

Advantages GSM
  • GSM uses radio frequencies efficiently, and due to the digital radio path, the system tolerates more inter cell disturbances.
  • The average speech quality is better than in analogue system.
  • Data transmission is supported throughout the GSM system.

Conclusion

What we can conclude here is the GSM are one of the alternative medium that can be used in order to invent something new.In addition, the technology of the GSM can reduce the percentage of the accident among the drivers. For example, when accident occur  this eye blink detector will detect the drivers eye and in 5 seconds then the GSM will automatically send sms to the number that have been set by the user.

FYP 2 (WEEK 5)

WEEK 5

Title of Activity

  • Identify the component

Objective

  • To identify the the component use for the  PIC circuit
  • Putting the component on PCB board

Content / Procedure

The component are arrange and ready to be solder onto PCB board

Component are soldered onto PCB board

Problem Statement

  • Some component are left out and there is no space on the front of the PCB board .

Solution

  • The left out component are solder at the back of the PCB board and so with the jumper connection between the component.

Conclusion

Although soldering the component at the back of the PCB board is inappropriate, that is the only way to make the circuit function. Otherwise , the circuit will not working properly.

FYP 2 (WEEK4)

WEEK 4

Title of Activity

  • Continue the activity from WEEK 3

Objective

  • To continue work from week 3
  • To design the layouts for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) using Ultiboard

Content / Procedure

The front layout of the PCB

The back layout of PCB

Problem statement

  • The arrangement is a little bit unorganized. Some of the component is too big and it is hard to allocate them on board.

Solution

  • Minimize the component and the space by arranging it auto-arranging in the software.
  • The track of the circuit is make sure by measurement so the current can flow smoothly without having a short circuit.

Conclusion

As a conclusion, designing a circuit is not easy especially when it have to be transfer to printed board. The connection and the arrangement of the component is important so that the circuit is neat and function well.

FYP 2 (WEEK3)

WEEK 3

Title of Activity

  • Design the PIC circuit for the project using Multisim

Objective

  • To make sure the connection are functioning well.

Content / Procedure

  • The schematic layout for PIC 16F877A

Circuit Diagram for PIC 16F877A for the project

Problem Statement

  • Combination and parts of relay can't function properly because the supply for the relay using 12V DC which is not the same with the circuit.

Solution

  • Design a separate power supply to activate the relays in PIC circuit.

Conclusion

The schematic design is finalized so it can be compatible with other device. It is hard to design it because I have to really make sure it can function properly based on combination of three circuit.

FYP 2 (WEEK2)

WEEK 2

Title of Activity
-Preparing and doing some modification for sensor

Objective
-To identify the suitable sensor for this project

Mercury Sensor Switch

Mercury Sensor Switch Casing

Block Flow of Project

Problem Statement
  • Using IR sensor is quite dangerous to human eyes because the percentage to get blind is 80% from the research that have been made.
  • IR sensor cant detect the eye movement accurately. Human eyes are different from each other and this will make it is more hard to measure precisely.

Solution for Problem Statement

  • The alternative is to change to IR sensor to mercury sensor switch.
  • Using mercury sensor, it will detect the posture(head movement) of human body while driving.

Result and Analysis
  • Mercury sensor allow or interrupt the flow of electric current in an electrical circuit in a manner that is dependent on the switch's physical position or alignment relative to the direction of the "pull" of earth's gravity, or other inertia.
  • It was noticed that  the sensor responds quite quickly to changes of the mercury concentration  in  air.

Conclusion

From the research,a few solution have been identified. The sensitivity of the drop to gravity provides a unique sensing function, and lends itself to simple, low-force mechanisms for manual or automatic operation. The sensor are quiet as there are no contacts that abruptly snap together. The mass of the moving mercury drop can provide an "over center" effect to avoid chattering as the switch is tilted. Multiple contacts can be included in the envelope for two or more circuits.

Block Flow of project

Result/Analysis

  • Continue some research in FYP2
  • All preparation must be done before week 14.

Conclusions

What we can conclude here is in week 1,overall progress should be updated in the blog so that every single detail or progress can be monitoring by the adviser. It is an alternative if we can not meet with the adviser.
